Arsenal are reportedly edging closer to securing the signing of Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette after increasing their offer for the French international.

Arsenal have reportedly increased their offer for Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is a long-time admirer of the French international, who scored 37 goals in all competitions during the last campaign.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has indicated that he does not expect the 26-year-old to leave the Ligue 1 club this summer, with the forward instead preferring a transfer to Atletico Madrid, which could potentially be completed in January.

However, according to The Telegraph, Arsenal have moved closer to Lyon's valuation of £57m, with a bid of £44m plus add-ons said to be on the table.

Should an offer be accepted, it remains to be seen whether Lacazette will make the switch, having previously bided his time with Lyon before the club agreed to allow him to seek a move to a top club in Europe ahead of next season.

Arsenal and Wenger hope that Lacazette is not the only Frenchman to move to the Emirates Stadium this summer, with the club also making approaches for AS Monaco duo Kylian Mbappe and Thomas Lemar.
