Arsenal's negotiations with Juventus over a loan deal for midfielder Arthur are on the verge of breaking down, according to a report.

Arsenal's hopes of landing Arthur on a loan deal from Juventus are slimming, according to a report.

The Gunners have been left very short in midfield in recent weeks, not helped by recent suspensions to Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey for red cards in the EFL Cup against Liverpool.

Having lost Mohamed Elneny to the Africa Cup of Nations and sending Ainsley Maitland-Niles out on loan to Roma, Arsenal have been tipped to welcome Arthur to the Emirates Stadium for the remainder of the campaign.

However, The Athletic reports that negotiations between the two clubs are on the verge of breaking down, with the powers-that-be at Arsenal unwilling to bend to Juventus' demands.

The report claims that Arsenal director Edu and Juve chief Federico Cherubini had welcomed the idea of an 18-month loan with an option to buy in 2023, but the Arsenal hierarchy are only prepared to sanction a six-month deal.

With the Bianconeri thought to be reluctant to sanction a short-term move due to an anticipated struggle to find a suitable replacement, Arsenal may now be forced to look elsewhere in their search for midfield reinforcements.

Arthur has just one goal and one assist to boast from 47 appearances in a Juventus shirt, and the 25-year-old has only started four games in the 2021-22 Serie A season.
