Stan Collymore: Mesut Ozil buy was a "cracking deal" for Arsenal

Stan Collymore hails Arsenal's £42.5m purchase of Mesut Ozil as a "cracking deal" for the Gunners.

Stan Collymore believes that the £42.5m Arsenal paid for Mesut Ozil was a bargain deal in football's current climate.

Ozil became the Gunners' most expensive signing of all time when he joined from Real Madrid on transfer deadline day, and Collymore feels that manager Arsene Wenger will certainly get his money's worth from the German international midfielder.

"In today's market you would have to say his £42.5m fee was a cracking deal, and that is the only reason I think Wenger has bought him," Collymore told The Mirror.

"Wenger has always said he will sign a player of genuine quality if he feels the price is right – and that is why I believe Ozil has now arrived at the Emirates.

"I have spoken to plenty of Gunners followers over the past few weeks and some seem to be under the impression that Wenger only signed Mesut Ozil because of the pressure they put him under. Sorry, but I'm not having that."

Wenger's side are currently at the top of the Premier League.
