Arsene Wenger promises "busy" January transfer window for Arsenal

Arsene Wenger says that Arsenal "will be busy" in January and hints that the club are close to signing Mohamed Elneny from Basel.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said that the club "will be busy" in the upcoming January transfer window.

The Frenchman acknowledged that injuries have left him short in areas, despite the Gunners topping the Premier League at the midway point of the season.

"I will be busy that is for sure," Wenger told reporters. "I have already said we are short."

The Gunners have been heavily linked with Basel's Mohamed Elneny and the 23-year-old Egyptian has reportedly undergone a medical with the club.

Although Wenger did not dismiss the rumours, he refused to confirm his interest in the defensive midfielder.

"You know more than me," Wenger added. "Unfortunately we cannot announce anything yet about this player. Nothing has been concluded."

Elneny has scored four times in 21 games for Basel this season.
