Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright says he would understand Robin van Persie leaving the club.

Ian Wright has said he would understand if Arsenal captain Robin van Persie leaves the club when his contract expires.

There are concerns around the club that the Dutchman may follow in the footsteps of fellow big-name stars Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri, who left the Gunners in the summer.

"I would not blame Robin van Persie if he left now," Wright told Sky Sports News.

"He is like anyone else, he wants success, to win stuff and play in finals and unfortunately at the minute that is not happening," said Wright, who scored 185 goals for Arsenal during the 1990's.

Van Persie recently celebrated his 100th Arsenal goal but he has yet to sign an extension on his current contract, which expires in 2013.
