Aston Villa midfielder Barry Bannan admits that it is going to be difficult for his side to recover from their 8-0 defeat to Chelsea.

Aston Villa midfielder Barry Bannan has admitted that he and his teammates are feeling "down" after their 8-0 defeat to Chelsea on Sunday.

Villa were stunned as Chelsea scored at will to condemn them to a demoralising loss but while Bannan acknowledged that it will be hard to pick themselves up after such a defeat, he has insisted that his side will come out "all guns blazing" against Spurs on Boxing Day.

Bannan told the Birmingham Mail: "It's going to be hard to pick ourselves up after that, obviously 8-0 is the worst score we've had since I've been here. Everyone in the dressing room is down, as we should be, and we've killed the fans as well by performing like that.

"We'll try to get this out of the way, pick up the things we did wrong and hopefully we can come out all guns blazing against Tottenham.

"We've got to get over this as quickly as we can. We'll try to turn things around to get a victory."

Bannan has been a regular in Villa's starting lineup in recent weeks.
