Christian Benteke: 'No penalty nerves'

Christian Benteke says that he "wasn't nervous" when taking a late penalty for Aston Villa against West Bromwich Albion.

Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke has insisted that he felt no nerves when taking a stoppage-time penalty against West Bromwich Albion last night.

The game at Villa Park was locked at one goal apiece when Baggies goalkeeper Ben Foster brought down Matt Lowton inside the area.

Benteke scored from 12 yards out to earn the home side their first win since December, but despite there being so much riding on the kick, the Belgian has revealed that he "wasn't nervous".

"I was very happy to help the team in this game. I wasn't nervous because I had the same situation last season and the cooler you are, the easier it is to take penalties for me so I'm very happy to help the team," the 24-year-old told the club's official website.

"In my mind it was just 'Christian, you have to score, you have no choice.' As a striker you want to be scoring goals and even when you play well but don't score you feel like you didn't do your job and I feel like I did my job last night."

The goal was just the fourth that Benteke has scored in all competitions this season.
