Shay Given hails Tim Sherwood influence on Aston Villa

Shay Given claims that Tim Sherwood's style has produced a positive reaction in the Aston Villa dressing room.

Shay Given has claimed that Tim Sherwood is making an impact in the Aston Villa dressing room during the early stages of his reign.

Sherwood guided Villa to the last four of the FA Cup with a 2-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, and Given believes that the second-half performance in that game is proof that the new manager's methods are working.

"He wasn't too happy at half time," the Irish goalkeeper told talkSPORT. "The flip-chart went flying in the dressing room and I think you saw our reaction in the second half, we were much better and caused West Brom a lot of problems.

"But that's what he's there to do. He's given us a rollicking when we've needed it and that's probably the first time he's really let go. I think a few of the lads were a bit shocked, but it got the reaction we needed.

"He speaks to people on a man-to-man level as well, he takes players aside, he puts his arm around them and he knows if players need a rollicking or a pick-me-up."

Villa turn their focus to Premier League survival against Sunderland on Saturday.
