Half-Time Report: Atletico Madrid, Celta Vigo still waiting for breakthrough

Celta Vigo and Atletico Madrid continue to wait for a breakthrough following a goalless first half at Balaidos.

Celta Vigo enjoyed the better of an uneventful goalless first half with champions Atletico Madrid.

Atletico were happy to sit on the back foot in the early stages as Celta dominated possession, but a lack of cutting edge in the final third of the pitch limited the chances on offer in a tight first half.

Only a fine piece of defending from Miranda prevented Celta from breaking the deadlock when the Brazilian cleared under pressure from Joaquin Larrivey after Nolito had delivered a dangerous cross.

Celta continued to dictate the tempo to the frustration of Atletico boss Diego Simeone, who responded by replacing Tiago with Mario Suarez before the break.
