Half-Time Report: Antoine Griezmann gives Atletico Madrid lead

Antoine Griezmann gives Atletico Madrid a 1-0 lead over Levante at half time in La Liga.

Antoine Griezmann has given Atletico Madrid a 1-0 lead over Levante in their first La Liga match since the winter break.

The home side thought that they had taken the lead inside the opening 15 minutes when Arda Turan flicked the ball in at the far post following a Mario Mandzukic free kick, but the striker was judged to have been in an offside position.

The Spanish champions continued to look the more likely in the early stages as Mandzukic tried to get the ball away himself with a header, but nodded the ball a fraction wide.

Diego Simeone's side did take the lead inside the opening 20 minutes though when Guilherme Siqueira crossed the ball in for Griezmann to head past the keeper.

Turan tried to make amends for his earlier disallowed effort by curling a cross in for Mandzukic, who thought that he had extended the advantage, but Atletico had a goal chalked off for offside for the second time.

Diego Godin tried to double the lead just before the break, but he headed high of the crossbar after Koke made a run forward and crossed the ball in.
