Mario Mandzukic: 'I can't be the new Diego Costa'

Mario Mandzukic warns Atletico Madrid supporters that he is not similar to former striker Diego Costa.

Mario Mandzukic has insisted that he has no intention of becoming the new Diego Costa at Atletico Madrid this season.

The Croatian forward was signed from Bayern Munich as a replacement for Costa, who joined Chelsea earlier this month, but he claims that his only focus is to produce what is expected of him by Atletico head coach Diego Simeone.

"Costa is Costa, and I'm Mario Mandzukic," the 28-year-old told reporters. "Everyone has their own style, and I'm going to follow the instructions of my new boss, El Cholo Simeone.

"I know his footballing past, he was a great player. He shows the same as a coach, he lives football 100 per cent. We are quite similar."

Mandzukic scored 26 goals in all competitions for Bayern last season.
