David Villa has said that he is ready to make an impact for his new club Atletico Madrid after scoring his first goal in a pre-season friendly.
Villa joined the Madrid side from Barcelona in July and opened his account for the side on Saturday, scoring the opener in the 2-0 win over Deportiva Las Palmas.
Atletico start their La Liga campaign against Sevilla next Sunday and the 31-year-old has revealed that he is full of confidence after grabbing his first goal in the club's colours.
"For a striker the most important thing is to score goals and it is important scoring a goal on your debut," Villa told reporters. "I am very happy because we worked hard this preseason.
"After the training all this week I am getting better and I'm very happy and very pleased that everything is going well.
"Slowly I'm getting used to the team and it is a very clear system and it has been good to play these minutes with my teammates. Now I must keep working. The work in pre-season has been very good and I feel good physically."
Villa is Spain's all-time top goalscorer, having scored 56 goals in 92 appearances since making his debut in 2005.
