Marc Bartra is ready to play in central defence for Barcelona against Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Barcelona defender Marc Bartra has insisted that he is ready to play for his side against Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old says that he could slot into central defence in place of the injured duo Carles Puyol and Javier Mascherano for the first leg of their semi-final tie at the Allianz Arena in Munich.

"I'm really ambitious and a UEFA Champions League semi-final represents an incredible challenge," UEFA.com quotes him as saying.

"If [the coach] trusts in me, I believe I won't let him down. The more difficult a situation looks the more eager I am [to do well].

"Competing and training alongside the best players in the world helps you to grow and when you are chosen to play, you feel their positivity; it's contagious."

The second leg will be held at Camp Nou next week.
