Barcelona boss Xavi has compared Pedri to legendary midfielder Andres Iniesta and branded the teenager 'the most talented player in world football'.

The 19-year-old was again in impressive form for his Catalan side on Sunday night, playing the full 90 minutes in the 4-0 win over Athletic Bilbao in La Liga.

After the match, Xavi was keen to pay tribute to the Spain international and compared him to Iniesta, who starred alongside the now Barcelona boss for a number of years at Camp Nou.

"It's how he understands the game, goes between the lines and goes behind the midfield pivots", Xavi told reporters. "He reminds me a lot of Andres Iniesta. If we're talking about pure talent, Pedri is the best in the world. He is a wonderful player. I haven't seen many talents like him."

Pedri missed a lot of football earlier this season due to a hamstring problem but returned to fitness last month and has now made 13 outings in 2021-22, contributing two goals and one assist in the process.

In all, the Spaniard has made 65 appearances for Barcelona since joining the club from Las Palmas.
