President Sandro Rosell says that there is no reason why Victor Valdes should depart Barcelona this summer.

Barcelona president Sandro Rosell has insisted that Victor Valdes does not need to leave the club this summer.

It had been reported that the goalkeeper would depart Camp Nou at the end of the current campaign following his revelation earlier this year that he would not extend his contract with the club.

However, because he still has 12 months left to run on that deal, Rosell has indicated that the club would like him to stay for at least another season.

"I want to speak with the player," he said. "Tito Vilanova, Andoni Zubizarreta and I would like a direct meeting.

"The player does not have to leave the club in the summer as his deal ends in 2014. After that we will analyse the goalkeeping situation."

Valdes came through the ranks at Barca and made his senior debut in 2002.
