Mario Gomez insists that he is excited about joining Vincenzo Montella's attacking Fiorentina side after agreeing a summer switch from Bayern Munich.

Mario Gomez has declared that Fiorentina's offensive style under Vincenzo Montella ultimately proved a decisive factor in sealing a summer move to La Viola.

The German striker agreed a switch to Serie A yesterday for a fee that could rise to around £17m including add-on clauses.

After finishing his fourth season with Bayern Munich as part of a historic treble-winning squad, Gomez admitted that the decision to leave was difficult but conceded that a reduced role made the move slightly easier.

He told reporters: "I knew that should I leave Bayern I was going to go abroad. And I knew as well that I was going to move south, Italy and Spain being the options.

"When I got in touch with Fiorentina I had a good feeling straight away, something not understandable for many possibly, but I am looking forward to it as Fiorentina are playing some good football and their style of play is very offensive.

"Of course it is difficult leaving the best club in the world but I love football and I wanted to get more time on the pitch, that's why I made this move. I am happy and grateful for having been here. It is due to Bayern that my biggest wish as a footballer came true, winning the Champions League."

Gomez scored 113 goals in 174 appearances for Bayern after joining from Bundesliga rivals Stuttgart in 2009.
