New Birmingham City boss Gary Rowett delighted with clean sheet at Wolves

Birmingham City's new manager Gary Rowett was pleased to see his side shut out local rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers in his first game in charge.

Birmingham City's new manager Gary Rowett has expressed his delight at the fact that the Blues managed to keep a clean sheet in his first game in charge.

Rowett made the step up from League Two Burton Albion to join struggling Championship side Birmingham earlier this week and saw his side hold high-flying Wolverhampton Wanderers to a goalless draw on Saturday lunchtime.

The 40-year-old was especially pleased with the shut-out after Birmingham's last result - an 8-0 hammering at the hands of Bournemouth.

"There's almost a relief they had the chance to put last week's result behind them, get a new message and a style of play," Rowett told Sky Sports News.

"They have worked very hard. It's a very, very good start. If they work together as a squad then we can certainly achieve something.

"I didn't expect us to come and keep a clean sheet at Molineux but I'd certainly have taken it. It's something to build on now."

The Blues, who are third from bottom in the table, next face Watford and Cardiff City, both at home, in the coming week before a two-week international break.
