Steve Kean claims he is on the cusp of having a squad capable of reaching the top ten.

Steve Kean has claimed that he is not far from being in a position to mount a top-ten challenge.

Blackburn are currently one from bottom in the league with just six points from 11 games, and Kean has been under increasing pressure to quit.

"We've said that we want to assemble a squad that can get us into the top ten, and I don't think we're far away from that at all," he told reporters today.

Kean added that he had been receiving praise from supporters, with some claiming that Rovers are playing 'their best in years'.

"The travelling fans have been 100% behind the lads. There's been a very small section at home that have been a bit negative.

"When you meet poeople in the village and around the training ground it's nothing but compliments. 'Stick with it', 'it's getting better', 'we can see massive signs of improvement', 'it's the best we've been playing in years'."

Meanwhile, Kean refused to discuss speculation that he had signed a new contract keeping him at Ewood Park. "I don't think this is an appropriate time for where we are [in the league]. We need to get ourselves into a position where I think we should be, then we can talk about that."

Next up for Blackburn is a trip to the DW Stadium to face bottom-of-the-table Wigan tomorrow.
