Barry Ferguson: 'Sort out Harrison McGahey's Blackpool future'

Blackpool interim boss Barry Ferguson urges the club to secure the long-term future of teenage defender Harrison McGahey.

Blackpool interim boss Barry Ferguson has urged the club to secure the long-term future of Harrison McGahey.

The 18-year-old defender has recently come into the side, playing in three straight league games for the Tangerines after making his senior debut against Burnley on Good Friday.

He has recently been offered a professional contract by the club, but might hold out for better terms after his recent run in the team.

"Blackpool have one hell of a player on their hands and they need to get him sorted out, otherwise they'll miss out on a top player," the Blackpool Gazette quotes Ferguson as saying.

"It's important because he's an excellent player. He's such a grounded boy and I like that. He's last off the training pitch and he still helps the staff bring the kit in.

"That makes me smile because you don't see that too often. He cleans my boots too! I like him a lot."

Blackpool go into Saturday's final day of the season in 18th place but are not quite yet safe from relegation.

They host fellow strugglers Charlton Athletic and need a point to guarantee their Championship status.
