Stuart Holden optimistic about returning to full fitness

Stuart Holden insists that a fourth serious knee injury will not force him to retire from professional football.

Bolton Wanderers midfielder Stuart Holden has insisted that he will return to full fitness following his latest injury setback.

The American was forced to undergo surgery last week after suffering a fourth serious knee injury but he has refused to concede that he might have to call time on his playing career.

Holden told US podcast Soccer Morning: "I'm just ready to get back on the horse. It was obviously a setback, disappointing for me personally and a lot of emotions were flying around, but I'm well and truly feeling like I'm ready to do this thing again.

"I won't give up because I know I have a lot left to give the game. I know my work-ethic, my mentality - that will all get me there again. I'm fully confident in my medical team where I'll be playing again with no problems."

Holden's current deal expires at the end of the season, but Bolton manager Dougie Freedman confirmed last week that the club would continue to help the 28-year-old during his recovery.
