Borussia Dortmund climb off bottom with Hoffenheim win

Borussia Dortmund claim a 1-0 victory over Hoffenheim to move off the bottom of the Bundesliga table.

Borussia Dortmund have climbed off the bottom of the Bundesliga table, courtesy of a 1-0 win over Hoffenheim this evening.

Following a slow start to the match by both teams it was Dortmund who broke the deadlock in the 17th minute, when Ilkay Gundogan powered in a header at the back post from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's cross.

It took Hoffenheim until eight minutes before half time to muster their first attempt, but after latching on to Kevin Volland's knockdown, Sven Schipplock fired his shot wide.

At the start of the second half Sebastian Rudy almost brought the visitors level with a free kick, but his effort was headed behind by Mats Hummels.

Aubameyang then thought that he had given Dortmund a two-goal lead after heading in from a corner, but he was adjudged to have been standing in an offside position.

Dortmund were well on top they came close again on the hour mark when Aubameyang burst through on goal, before seeing his low strike blocked by the legs of Oliver Baumann.

The goalkeeper was called into action again two minutes later to tip Hummels's header over the bar.

Baumann was proving hard to beat in the Hoffenheim goal and he pulled off another good save to turn Aubameyang's powerful attempt onto the post.

Jurgen Klopp's side wasted further chances to make the game safe, but they managed to see it out and move up to 14th in the Bundesliga.
