Bournemouth forward Callum Wilson makes return from long-term knee injury

Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson makes a successful return from a long-term knee injury in the club's Premier League Cup match with Norwich City.

Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson has played for 65 minutes on his return from a long-term knee injury.

At the start of 2018, Wilson sustained a second cruciate ligament injury in the space of 16 months, an issue which led to an eight-month absence from the sport.

However, on Wednesday night, the 25-year-old came through over an hour of action as the Cherries ran out 3-2 victors in a Premier League Cup clash with Norwich City.

Wilson told the club's official website: "It feels fine, it's not even in my mind. I know it's strong, I've done all my testing and everything says it's stronger than last time.

"I didn't even think about it, I just thought about playing well and focus on the pitch. This time round I feel a lot better, last time I think I rushed myself back a little bit. I took longer this time and I think I've benefited from that."

Wilson is unlikely to be rushed back by Bournemouth, with another reserve fixture expected to be in the striker's immediate schedule, but the EFL Cup tie against Middlesbrough on October 24 could potentially be used to hand the former Coventry man a return to the first team.
