Bournemouth move into the automatic promotion places in League One thanks to a 1-0 victory at Colchester United.

Bournemouth have moved up into the automatic promotion places in League One after a 1-0 victory over Colchester United.

Brett Pitman's first-half goal was enough to take Eddie Howe's side into second place on goal difference.

Swindon Town, who were second at the start of play, drew 1-1 at home to Oldham Athletic. Lee Barnard gave the visitors the lead midway through the second half, but Adam Rooney's scissor-kick finish secured a point for the Wiltshire outfit.

Brentford are outside of the top two on goal difference after overcoming Notts County 2-1 at Griffin Park. Toumani Diagouraga and Bradley Wright-Phillips gave the hosts a 2-0 lead before Alan Judge pulled one back for County.

League One leaders Doncaster Rovers saw their lead at the top reduced to two points after they lost 1-0 at Coventry City. Cyrus Christie's first-half strike was enough to secure victory for the Sky Blues, who were placed into administration in midweek.

Elsewhere, Sheffield United moved above Tranmere Rovers into fifth after beating them 1-0 at Prenton Park, a result which leaves them two points adrift of the automatic promotion spots.

At the other end of the table, Scunthorpe United picked up a vital 2-1 win over playoff-chasing Leyton Orient that moved them out of the relegation zone at the expense of Oldham, who drop to 21st.

Results in full: Brentford 2-1 Notts County, Bury 2-2 Crewe Alexandra, Carlisle United 2-2 Shrewsbury Town, Colchester United 0-1 Bournemouth, Coventry City 1-0 Doncaster Rovers, Crawley Town 1-1 Stevenage, Hartlepool United 0-2 MK Dons, Scunthorpe United 2-1 Leyton Orient, Swindon Town 1-1 Oldham Athletic, Tranmere Rovers 0-1 Sheffield United, Yeovil Town 0-0 Walsall
