Matt Ritchie rescues draw for Bournemouth against West Bromwich Albion

Matt Ritchie cancels out a Salomon Rondon opener as Bournemouth and West Bromwich Albion play out a 1-1 draw at Dean Court.

Bournemouth and West Bromwich Albion shared the spoils this afternoon as Matt Ritchie cancelled out Salomon Rondon's goal at the Vitality Stadium.

Tony Pulis's side missed a penalty as they were held to a draw on the south coast, extending the visitors' winless run to eight matches.

It was the hosts' final home game of their first season in the Premier League, and after a quiet opening to the game they were the first to work the opposition keeper, with Ben Foster keeping out Max Gradel's effort.

The Baggies came close themselves after quarter of an hour when Rondon's fierce strike swerved narrowly wide, but the striker would not have to wait much longer for the opening goal of the contest.

It came just one minute later, with Rondon latching on to a Jonny Evans cross from the left and nodding his finish past Artur Boruc.

West Brom were winless in seven matches heading into the game, but they set about looking to extend their lead and Boruc was soon needed to tip Craig Gardner's effort around the post.

Gardner had a better chance to add to the lead right on the stroke of half time when his side were awarded a penalty, but Boruc tipped the spot kick onto the crossbar before recovering in time to deny the midfielder again from the rebound.

Such clear chances were few and far between for both sides, although Bournemouth did start to carry a little more threat in the second half and came close twice in quick succession shortly after the hour mark.

Junior Stanislas drew a routine save from Foster with a tame free kick before Josh King found himself in shooting space, only to drag his effort wide of the target.

James McClean nodded a header past the post at the other end, before turning provider to set up Rondon, who also steered his header off target.

The Cherries levelled things up with only eight minutes remaining, and once again it came via the aerial route as Ritchie headed home just eight minutes after coming on as a substitute.

There was still time for West Brom to almost regain the lead and end their winless run, but Craig Dawson's low strike from just outside the area thumped against the foot of the post with only a few minutes remaining.

Both sides had to settle for a point that sees them drop to 16th and 15th in the table respectively, however, with only one game of the season remaining.
