Steve Cotterill: 'Setting targets will create urgency'

Bristol City boss Steve Cotterill admits that he likes to set personal goals during the season.

Bristol City manager Steve Cotterill has revealed that he likes to set himself personal targets during the season.

The Robins currently sit 17th in League One, two points clear of the relegation zone.

Cotterill says that he does not put pressure on the players by making his goals public.

"I set targets and I write things down all the time," the Bristol Post quotes him as saying.

"I do that for myself, not the players, because I don't want to put pressure on them. I set targets for myself and take batches of six games at a time.

"I do that because I think setting targets creates urgency and that helps you pull things out of the bag when you need to. Targets do not always work out, because points never seem to come as you think they will in football."

Cotterill's side travel to Sheffield United on Saturday.
