Callum Robinson strike sinks Bristol City

Preston North End hold off a second-half onslaught from Bristol City to close the gap on the League One pace-setters.

League One leaders Bristol City have been consigned to back-to-back defeats after losing 1-0 at home to fellow promotion contenders Preston North End.

Callum Robinson's first-half goal proved enough for Simon Grayson's men, who close the gap on City at the top of the table to just two points.

The Lilywhites began well, with Neil Kilkenny's shot from distance stinging the palms of Frank Fielding.

Luke Freeman, Aaron Wilbraham and Aden Flint all had chances to score for Steve Cotterill's side, but Preston continued to pose a threat in attack with Tom Clarke and Joe Garner denied by Fielding.

However, North End finally found a way through the City rearguard when Chris Humphrey's cross presented Robinson with a simple tap-in to give the visitors the lead at a largely stunned Ashton Gate.

Kieran Agard has the Robins' best chance of an equaliser before half time when he brought a save out of Thorsten Stuckmann.

Preston were nearly further ahead before the break through Aston Villa loanee Robinson, but this time Fielding tipped his effort away.

Steve Cotterill's men improved after the break, with Wilbraham and Luke Ayling both having chances to equalise but failing to find the net.

Marlon Pack and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas also went close, but City were left frustrated as they lost for the second time in a week.
