Japan become the first country to qualify for next year's World Cup finals with a 1-1 draw with Australia.

Alberto Zaccheroni's side needed a point to book their place in the tournament proper for the fifth consecutive time.

Tommy Oar put Australia ahead in Saitama before Keisuke Honda netted a penalty in the first minute of injury time to see the hosts progress from Asia Group B.

Japan equalled their best ever showing at the World Cup when they reached the last 16 of the competition in 2010.
