Goals either side of half time from David Nugent and Chris Wood saw Championship leaders Leicester City defeat their nearest challengers Burnley to move six points clear at the summit.

The Foxes have now gone 19 league games without defeat and were set on their way by top scorer Nugent, who swept home from 20 yards in the 35th minute.

New Zealand striker Wood was brought on as a substitute in the first half and set up the opener before putting the result beyond doubt 12 minutes from time with a dipping 25-yard volley.

Was the result fair?

Absolutely. Leicester's strength in depth was fully evident today as Burnley struggled with several missing key players, never really troubling the pacesetting Foxes. As you can see above, there were not many shots on target, but it was always Leicester who looked more threatening.

Burnley's performance

You have to feel for Sean Dyche, who had to start the match without three of his regular starters - Kieran Trippier, Dean Marney and Danny Ings - and then lost second top scorer Sam Vokes to injury inside the opening 10 minutes. The Clarets' lack of squad depth was therefore exposed and you have to wonder if they will be able to survive if they manage to secure promotion to the top flight. Even though today's loss will have hurt, Burnley should still secure promotion and Dyche will be praying that the injury suffered today by Vokes isn't too serious.

Leicester's performance

Unlike Dyche, Nigel Pearson was able to name the same starting lineup for the sixth game running. His side looked much more cohesive and dominated today's game. They're so consistent across the park and barely put a foot wrong today, with the quality strikes by Nugent and Wood proving to be the difference. Although it's not officially confirmed yet, Leicester are going to be promoted and now haven't lost in the league for almost four months.

Sports Mole's man of the match

Anthony Knockaert: As so often this season, it was a solid team performance from the Foxes and therefore hard to single out one man. About four or five Leicester players could be here, but we're going to reward Knockaert for his pesky trickery and energetic closing down all game long.

Biggest gaffe

There wasn't one mistake that stood out more than the rest but because of the importance of the miss, we're singling out Scott Arfield for not really troubling Kasper Schmeichel when gifted a one-on-one opportunity by Wes Morgan's slip.

Referee performance

Premier League regular Chris Foy took charge today and made a few bad decisions. Leicester should have had a penalty in the first half when Jason Shackell clearly held Jamie Vardy's arm in the box. Then, just before half time, Burnley wanted a spot kick when two Leicester players handled the ball. Foy blew up for a foul on Burnley when there was very little contact.

What next?

Burnley: Dyche's men can get back to winning ways when they travel to Watford in a week's time.

Leicester: Leicester, meanwhile, play their game in-hand at playoff-chasing Wigan Athletic on Tuesday.
