Sean Dyche: 'Premier League must ban players for diving'

Burnley manager Sean Dyche believes that a panel should be introduced to hand out retrospective punishments to players who dive in the Premier League.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche has called for the Premier League to introduce retrospective bans for players who dive.

Neither the league or the Football Association have ever suspended a player for diving during matches, but Dyche believes that the problem is serious enough for a panel of experts to be asked to look at incidents after games.

"I would introduce retrospective bans for cheating," the Burnley boss told members of the media. "It's got to be looked at. Some dives are being applauded now. It's ridiculous. It's very, very difficult for referees.

"A striker can drop in the box and not get banned. It can decide results. Have a panel who look at it, get all the angles. It would cut it out very, very quickly. It would disappear because managers would say to their best players: 'I can't afford to lose you for three matches.'

"It used to be frowned on. Now it's weirdly accepted. It's almost applauded, but cheating is cheating."

Burnley return to action against West Ham United next Saturday afternoon.
