Tom Heaton reflects on "extra special" East Lancashire derby win

Tom Heaton looks back on Burnley's East Lancashire derby clash against Blackburn Rovers with real pride after captaining his team to all three points.

Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton has expressed his delight at captaining his side to bragging rights over local rivals Blackburn Rovers.

Scott Arfield's second-half strike proved the difference in Saturday's East Lancashire derby clash at Ewood Park, as the Clarets ran out 1-0 winners.

Heaton, who had to remain strong between the sticks in order to preserve Burnley's slender lead, puts the victory down to the defensive resilience on show from his teammates across the full 90 minutes.

"It was a proud moment and with the armband on it was extra special so we were very pleased to come here and win," he told the club's official website. "I thought it was a battling performance, I don't think we were at our fluid best.

"It was a tough game in a derby atmosphere away from home. They had a few good chances in the game. We showed that resilience that's been massive and that wins you games. We were all hands to the pump and we were heading and putting bodies on the line.

"We've won 7 points out 9 in the last three games so we keep rolling over and it's been a good week. We're looking forward to Huddersfield on Saturday to try and take the momentum we've built up forward."

Burnley are level on points with Hull City in second place, having lost just one of their last 10 league games.
