League Two roundup: Shrewsbury Town promoted, Cheltenham Town and Tranmere Rovers relegated

Sports Mole rounds up Saturday's League Two action as Shrewsbury Town secure promotion and Tranmere Rovers and Cheltenham Town are relegated to the Conference.

Shrewsbury Town secured their place in League One next season and relegated Cheltenham Town by beating the Robins 1-0 at Whaddon Road this afternoon.

Tranmere Rovers will also join Cheltenham in the Conference next season after losing away at Plymouth Argyle, with a Hartlepool United victory at Exeter City sealing their fate.

Jean-Louis Akpa-Akpro scored the game's only goal in the Shrewsbury's encounter with the Robins, which promotes Micky Mellon's side back to the third tier.

Plymouth ran out 3-2 winners against Tranmere as a Reuben Reid penalty and goals from Tareiq Holmes-Dennis and Lewis Alessandra ended the visitors' 94-year stay in the Football League.

Long-time strugglers Hartlepool secured their status in League Two for next season by beating beat Exeter 2-1 at Victoria Park.

Burton edged closer to being crowned champions as a Lucas Akins brace and a Phil Edwards strike saw Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's side beat Northampton Town 3-1.

Ten-man Southend United moved into the last automatic-promotion place after they won their encounter against Luton Town 1-0. Bury sit two points behind Phil Brown's side in fourth after they comfortably beat AFC Wimbledon 2-0.

Wycombe now drop into the playoff places after they were beat 1-0 at home to Morecambe.

Dagenham & Redbridge thrashed Accrington Stanley 4-0 - goals from Matt Partridge, Jamie Cureton and Jodi Jones helped seal all three points.

Portsmouth overcame 10-man Mansfield Town, who had Ritchie Sutton sent off in the second minute for denying a goalscoring opportunity.

Stevenage's 1-0 victory over Carlisle United boosted their playoff hopes and moved them onto 72 points for the season.

Second-half goals from David Tutonda and Lee Minshull clinched all three points for Newport County as they beat York City 2-0.

Oxford United comfortably beat rivals Cambridge United 2-0 thanks to goals from Kemar Roofe and Danny Hylton.
