Manchester City and Barcelona are reportedly showing 'concrete interest' in Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich as Liverpool make a decision over a potential move.

Manchester City and Barcelona reportedly have 'concrete interest' in Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich.

The 29-year-old has made 417 competitive appearances for the Bavarians since he arrived from Stuttgart in the summer of 2015.

Kimmich remains a key part of the first-team setup at the Allianz Arena, demonstrated by the fact that he has started all 27 of his competitive appearances this season.

While he may be a regular fixture in Vincent Kompany's side, Kimmich's Bayern future is the subject of much uncertainty, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season.

Man City, Barcelona keen on Kimmich

Kimmich could still sign a fresh deal with the German giants, but his contract situation has caught the attention of Man City and Barcelona.

According to journalist Florian Plettenburg, Man City and Barcelona are both showing 'concrete interest' in signing the Germany international.

Man City appear keen to add to their engine room, having seen how Rodri's injury absence has negatively affected them this season.

As for Barcelona, they are blessed with the midfield talents of Gavi, Pedri and Marc Casado, although Frenkie de Jong continues to be linked with a move away from the Catalan club, which could potentially open up a midfield spot.

Kimmich is said to be 'taking his time' to assess his options before deciding whether to sign a new Bayern contract or seek a fresh challenge.

The current indication is that he will extend his stay at the Allianz Arena, with his family keen to remain in Munich.

Liverpool make Kimmich decision

A recent report claimed that Liverpool had made direct contact with Kimmich's representatives over a potential move to Anfield.

Kimmich would add to Liverpool's midfield options, but he could also be a potential replacement for Real Madrid-linked Trent Alexander-Arnold after beginning his career as a right-back.

However, Plettenburg's update states that the Premier League leaders are not actively pursuing a deal to secure Kimmich's signature.

Liverpool are believed to be satisfied with their current midfield options and are focusing on other potential targets.
