The League Managers Association has issued an apology for the wording of yesterday's statement regarding Malky Mackay, who is alleged to have sent racist text messages during his time as manager of Cardiff City.
The Football Association are investigating claims made in a dossier reportedly sent by Cardiff owner Vincent Tan, who sacked Mackay back in December.
It is alleged that Mackay and his former ally Iain Moody sent texts to one another of a racist, sexist and homophobic nature during their time at the Cardiff City stadium.
Via the LMA, Mackay apologised for sending two 'disrespectful' messages, but has denied making sexist or homophobic comments.
The LMA came under criticism after describing the texts in question as "friendly text message banter" between the two individuals, but the organisation has come forward to apologise for their choice of words.
A statement issued this morning said: "The LMA apologises for some of its wording, in its release yesterday, which was inappropriate and has been perceived to trivialise matters of a racist, sexist or homophobic nature. That was certainly not our intention.
"It is beyond argument that any comments that are discriminatory, even used in private, are totally unacceptable. The LMA remains absolutely aware of our responsibility to the game and to promote and uphold the highest standards of behaviour.
"The LMA will not be commenting further on the allegations relating to Malky Mackay whilst The FA conducts its investigation, other than to repeat that both the LMA and Malky will be cooperating fully.
"We will continue to work with all of the game's stakeholders to address the important issues of respect and discriminatory behaviour in all its forms."
Moody resigned from his post as Crystal Palace sporting director yesterday after the allegations came to light.
