Warnock: 'Cardiff not motivated by money'

Manager Neil Warnock claims that his Cardiff City squad are not motivated to earn promotion by money, with reports claiming that they stand to earn a bonus of £10m.

Manager Neil Warnock has played down suggestions that his Cardiff City squad stand to earn a bonus of £10m if they secure promotion to the Premier League.

Cardiff have spent the last three seasons outside of the playoffs, but the Bluebirds continue to be the surprise package of the current Championship campaign, having established a four-point advantage in the hunt for automatic promotion.

A report has claimed that Warnock and his players will be rewarded financially if they can get the Welsh outfit back in the top flight, but Warnock has said that money has played no part in the squad's motivation this season.

Warnock is quoted by Wales Online as saying: "You have to take it with a little bit of pinch of salt. I read in the same report that Leicester has £6.7m or something but inflation, eh?

"Money doesn't come into it, not at our level. I'm not sure about the Premier League when they are on astronomical wages. In the Championship, you don't think about it, it's just about getting the points on board.

"Last year, when I said I wanted to be challenging for the the playoffs people said I was in cuckoo land but here we are. Everything is expected of those other teams."

Cardiff can move 13 points clear of sixth-placed Bristol City with victory over the Robins in South Wales on Sunday.
