Juventus cruise past Celtic

A 2-0 win on the night in Italy gives Juventus a 5-0 aggregate victory over Celtic in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Celtic's Champions League adventure has ended with a 5-0 aggregate defeat to Juventus in the last 16 of the competition.

A 2-0 loss in Italy on the night was enough to see Neil Lennon's side exit the competition before the quarter-finals.

The hosts took the lead with 24 minutes on the clock as Alessandro Matri converted the rebound after Fraser Forster had saved Fabio Quagliarella's shot.

However, Celtic responded well and they could have reduced the deficit but for Gianluigi Buffon in the Juventus goal.

The veteran shotstopper turned Gary Hooper's effort wide on 28 minutes before he collected Beram Kayal's header at the end of the first half.

Forster got down low to keep out Quagliarella's effort after the interval, while Efe Ambrose headed wide at the other end.

Despite Celtic's refusal to lie down, Juventus sealed their passage through to the quarter-finals with 20 minutes left to play when Quagliarella struck at the far post following Andrea Pirlo's lofted pass to Arturo Vidal.
