Ronny Deila: 'Lack of Nadir Ciftci appeal was club's decision'

Celtic boss Ronny Deila confirms that it was the club's decision not to appeal against Nadir Ciftci's eight-match ban for biting.

Celtic manager Ronny Deila has confirmed that the decision not to appeal Nadir Ciftci's ban for biting was made by the club, not the player.

Ciftci was banned for eight domestic matches, two of which have been suspended, for biting Jim McAlister during a Dundee derby on the final day of last season before his switch to Celtic this summer.

The 23-year-old will miss a large chunk of the new campaign as a result, but Deila has echoed assistant boss John Collins in his desire to "move on" from the incident.

Asked whether it was the club's decision to accept the ban, Deila told reporters: "Yes, we want to move on, that's the most important thing because he has a long career here at Celtic and this is just the start.

"I haven't talked so much about it to him. It happened before he came to Celtic so I haven't put myself into the case.

"Nadir has said he is a little bit disappointed but that's okay, we knew that this could happen and we have a lot of strikers in the club that can do the job when he is out. But he is ready for playing and looking forward to the next match."

Ciftci will be eligible for his side's European matches during that time, starting with tomorrow night's Champions League qualifier against Stjarnan.
