Motherwell kept up the pressure on second-placed Aberdeen as the North Lanarkshire outfit recorded a 2-1 win against St Johnstone in today's Scottish Premiership clash at Fir Park.

Lionel Ainsworth's goal gave the Steelmen the lead in the 21st minute, but David Mackay equalised just six minutes later.

Stephen McManus's strike midway through the first half proved decisive for the home side, who now find themselves just a point behind the Dons, who lost 5-2 away at Celtic.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Dundee United remain in fifth and fourth place respectively after playing out a 1-1 draw, with St Johnstone failing to keep the pressure on them in the top half of the table following their defeat.

Hibernian and Patrick Thistle, both in the bottom half of the table, cancelled each other out in a 1-1 draw, while St Mirren saw off struggling Ross County 1-0.
