Celtic thrash Aberdeen to claim Scottish League Cup

Celtic thrash Aberdeen 3-0 to win the Scottish League Cup - the Bhoys' 100th major trophy - in Sunday's final at Hampden Park.

Celtic have claimed the 100th major trophy in their history by thrashing Aberdeen 3-0 to win the Scottish League Cup in Sunday's final at Hampden Park.

Brendan Rodgers's charges, who went through the entire competition without conceding a single goal, struck first blood on the quarter-hour mark when Jozo Simunovic played in Tom Rogic, who curled an effort past Joe Lewis and into the Dons goal.

Barely two minutes after Celtic took the lead, Derek McInnes's side nearly drew level, but Andrew Considine's glancing header was palmed away by Craig Gordon.

Aside from that effort, Aberdeen struggled and soon found themselves two goals down when, 37 minutes in, James Forrest picked up the ball just inside the opposition half and was given enough space to maraud into their box and drill home.

After the break, Celtic were given more of a test from their opponents, who weighed in with a number of chances and won several corners, but were unable to break the Hoops defence.

Just after the hour mark it was all over for the Dons as Anthony O'Connor brought Forrest down in the box and referee John Beaton pointed to the spot.

Moussa Dembele stepped up and calmly slotted the penalty home, sending Lewis the wrong way and etching his name into the history books for having scored in every round of the competition.
