How Chelsea could line up against Sevilla

Sports Mole looks at how Chelsea could line up in Tuesday's Champions League clash with Sevilla.

Chelsea will be looking to start their 2020-21 Champions League campaign in a positive fashion when they welcome Sevilla to Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.

The Blues - knocked out by Bayern Munich in the last-16 stage of the 2019-20 competition - have been drawn into Group E alongside Sevilla, Rennes and Krasnodar.

Frank Lampard's side will enter the clash with the Europa League winners off the back of a disappointing result, though, having thrown away a two-goal lead to draw 3-3 with Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how the home side could line up for the European tie.

Out: Billy Gilmour (knee), Edouard Mendy (thigh)

Lampard revealed after Saturday's clash with Southampton that summer arrival Edouard Mendy was still struggling with the thigh injury that he picked up while on international duty with Senegal, meaning that Kepa Arrizabalaga is expected to keep his spot between the sticks.

Billy Gilmour is also still out with a knee injury, but Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic have both recovered from recent issues, with the former making his debut against the Saints on Saturday.

Experienced centre-back Thiago Silva was rested against Southampton but should return for this match, while Reece James could be given the nod at right-back ahead of Cesar Azpilicueta.

Ziyech's lack of action means that it would be a surprise to see him in the starting XI, though, and Lampard will not want to take Sevilla lightly, meaning that rests for the likes of Timo Werner and Kai Havertz are unlikely.

Callum Hudson-Odoi, Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud will all be hoping for minutes, but Mason Mount and Pulisic are expected to continue in the wide positions.

There could be a change in midfield, though, with Mateo Kovacic potentially replacing N'Golo Kante, who might be given a rest ahead of the upcoming Premier League clash with Manchester United.
