Chelsea suffering the away-day blues in 2019

Four defeats from four matches, 13 goals conceded and none scored is the sum total of Chelsea's miserable away record in 2019 so far.

Chelsea suffered yet another defeat on the road on Sunday as Premier League leaders Manchester City put six goals past Maurizio Sarri's side less than two weeks on from the shock 4-0 loss away at Bournemouth.

The hammering at the hands of City was Chelsea's heaviest defeat since a 7-0 loss against Nottingham Forest in April 1991 and extended their losing start to the year in games away from Stamford Bridge.

Here, Press Association Sport looks at the numbers behind Chelsea's first four away games of 2019.

Matches lost – 4/4

Sarri's side have failed to register a single positive result in any of their first four away matches of the year. The run started with a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final tie before Premier League losses at Arsenal, Bournemouth and Manchester City contributed to their slide to sixth in the table.

Goals conceded – 13

Chelsea have shipped 13 goals in their four away matches so far this year, conceding once against Spurs and twice against Arsenal before 4-0 and 6-0 losses to Bournemouth and City respectively. Seven of these goals were conceded in the first half, with the other six coming after the break.

Goals scored – 0

The goals have been flying in for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in recent games, with new signing Gonzalo Higuain and top scorer Eden Hazard both netting twice as the Blues thumped Huddersfield 5-0 in their last home match. But the same cannot be said on the road, with Chelsea failing to score in any of their away fixtures since the turn of the year.
