Half-Time Report: Newcastle United keeping Chelsea at bay

Chelsea fail to break down Newcastle United in the opening half of Saturday lunchtime's Premier League match at St James' Park.

Premier League leaders Chelsea have been unable to break Newcastle United down in the opening half of this afternoon's lunchtime kickoff at St James' Park.

After the first 10 minutes went by without a chance, Chelsea wingers Willian and Eden Hazard both tried their luck from outside the box, but neither could hit the target.

Willian then went even closer with another effort from range that beat Rob Elliot but not the post.

Chelsea continued to be restricted to shots from distance and it was the home side who created the first real chance of the game in the 32nd minute.

Moussa Sissoko slipped the ball into Ayoze Perez and he in turn found Jack Colback who couldn't beat the onrushing Thibaut Courtois from 10 yards.

As the half drew to a close Chelsea almost took the lead in spectacular fashion when Oscar connected well with a bicycle kick but couldn't direct it on goal.
