Gary Cahill: 'Everyone is behind Roy Hodgson'

Chelsea defender Gary Cahill insists that Roy Hodgson has the full backing of the England squad and is the right man to lead the Three Lions beyond Euro 2016.

Gary Cahill has insisted that Roy Hodgson is the right man to lead England beyond Euro 2016.

The future of Hodgson, 67, was questioned following England's group-stage elimination at this summer's World Cup in Brazil, but the Football Association is now rumoured to be preparing him a new contract.

Chelsea defender Cahill has revealed that the Three Lions squad would be in favour of an extended stay for the former Liverpool and Fulham boss.

When asked if Hodgson should continue for the long term, Cahill told reporters: "Yes - I think he has been great for us.

"The manager has addressed things he wanted to address and it is working at the minute for us. We are building and going in the right direction. Everyone is behind the manager."

Hodgson has won 19 of his 35 matches in charge, including all three of England's Euro 2016 qualifiers thus far, since taking charge in May 2012.
