Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has praised the way in which teammate John Terry 'steamrolled' his way through the ordeal of last week's racism trial.

Following a four-day trial at Westminster Magistrates' Court, the Blues captain was found not guilty of racially abusing Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand during October's West London derby.

Cahill is confident that Terry will now put the matter behind him and return for pre-season training fully focused on the campaign ahead.

"We are all glad John was cleared. The most important thing for us is that John is playing in a Chelsea shirt," said Cahill. "When he comes back from holiday all of this will be put behind him.

"John has gone through loads of stuff but the character he is, he just seems to steamroller over it all and motor on. I don't think this will affect him in any way.

"John was one of England's best players at the Euros. The defence looked solid. They did really well."

Cahill, who joined Chelsea from Bolton Wanderers for a fee of £7m in January, made 10 Premier League appearances for the Blues last season.
