Chelsea technical coach Eddie Newton has revealed that he scouted Cenk Tosun for the club before the striker's move to Everton from Besiktas.
Tosun joined the Toffees for £27m during the January transfer window, but his career in England has got off to a slow start, with the Turkey international quickly losing his place in Sam Allardyce's side so far and starting just two games for the club.
However, Newton still expects the 26-year-old to succeed in the Premier League if he is given time to adapt to the pace of the division.
"He is a very good player, I watched him at Besiktas and was impressed," he is quoted as saying by the Liverpool Echo.
"In football you rarely sign a player and expect immediate results, especially in January. He will need time. The Premier League is the fastest in the world and it takes time to adjust.
"Cenk is settling in and adapting. I really think he is going to do well in England but needs to be given a chance and time to settle in first."
Tosun scored 14 goals for Besiktas during the first half of the season, but is yet to open his Everton account.
