Former Liverpool forward Robbie Fowler says that the leniency of Chelsea captain John Terry's four-match ban for racially abusing Anton Ferdinand "doesn't sit right" with him.

Former Liverpool forward Robbie Fowler has said that the leniency of Chelsea captain John Terry's four-match ban for racially abusing Anton Ferdinand "doesn't sit right" with him.

Terry was also fined £220,000 for the incident, which took place during the Blues' 1-0 defeat to Queens Park Rangers in October 2011.

In December 2011, Liverpool's Luis Suarez was banned for eight games and fined £40,000 for racially abusing Manchester United left-back Patrice Evra.

"No, I don't think the FA have done the right thing," Fowler told the BBC's Football Focus programme.

"I know the fines are different [between Suarez and Terry] but that just tells me that John Terry probably earns more than Luis Suarez. I can't believe he did not get the same number of games [as Suarez].

"A four-match ban is just one more than a straight red for some offences. To me that doesn't sit right."

Terry has started Chelsea's Premier League game at Arsenal this afternoon, having delayed his decision on whether to appeal his punishment.
