Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is reportedly keen to strip the captain's armband from defender John Terry and hand it to David Luiz.

32-year-old Terry, who is adamant that he will be a Blues player next season, was installed as captain during the 2004-05 campaign by Jose Mourinho, who has been heavily linked with a return to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Despite his eight-year reign as leader, it is understood that Abramovich is keen to offload the old guard and create a new-look team with Luiz as the club's skipper, according to the Daily Star.

Luiz, who signed for the Premier League outfit in 2011, is currently behind Frank Lampard and Petr Cech in the captain's pecking order.
