John Terry's fitness is thrown into doubt after picking up a rib injury during Chelsea's Champions League quarter-final victory over Benfica.

Chelsea captain John Terry has become a fitness doubt for the former Premier League champions after suffering a rib injury during the Blues' Champions League quarter-final win over Benfica.

Blues boss Roberto Di Matteo has confirmed that the club will wait on the outcome of a scan before determining the extent of the skipper's injury.

"He got a knock on his rib and that's why we had to take him off," said Di Matteo. "We'll assess him and see how he is. We hope that he is going to be okay."

The centre-back was removed from the field after an hour into Chelsea's second-leg 2-1 win over Benfica at Stamford Bridge last night.
