Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand has described some of the abuse that he has received since the alleged racially-motivated confrontation with John Terry as "extreme".

Terry is due in court on July 9 over allegations that he insulted Ferdinand using racist language during the Hoops' 1-0 win over Chelsea in October.

Since that game, Ferdinand has been sent a bullet in the post and some Chelsea fans have taunted him by chanting "You know what you are".

Speaking to The Sun, Ferdinand said: "Some of the abuse has been extreme, some of it has been very extreme and I'm thinking 'how can they even be giving me any stick?'

"But this is the world we live in. You have to deal with it and I deal with it by playing my football.

"I cannot influence what other people are doing or saying. I can only affect what I'm doing on the pitch and that's the way I've treated it."

Terry was stripped of his England captaincy following the court case's postponement.
