Chelsea 'leading race for Paris Saint-Germain forward Julian Draxler'

Chelsea are reportedly best placed to sign Paris Saint-Germain winger Julian Draxler, having identified him as a possible target in the January transfer window.

Chelsea are reportedly leading the race to sign Julian Draxler from Paris Saint-Germain during the January transfer window.

Blues boss Frank Lampard is understood to be considering significant reinforcements to his side after seeing their transfer ban reduced, clearing them to sign new players next month.

Chelsea have lost five of their last seven Premier League games to see their grip on the final Champions League spot loosen, and the board are reportedly planning to provide a budget of up to £150m to enable Lampard to secure a top-four finish.

Recent speculation has linked the London outfit with PSG duo Draxler and Idrissa Gueye, and reports in Spain now claim that the Blues are best placed to sign the former in January.

Draxler has made just five Ligue 1 starts this season and finds himself behind the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, Angel Di Maria and Mauro Icardi in the pecking order at the Parc des Princes.

The 26-year-old is understood to be open to joining a Premier League club, while Chelsea are in the market for a new winger with uncertainty still surrounding the futures of Pedro and Willian.
