John Terry to stay at Chelsea?

Chelsea issue a statement revealing that John Terry could be offered a new contract in the coming months.

Chelsea have issued a statement that suggests John Terry could be offered a new deal with the club.

The veteran defender announced yesterday that he would be leaving the Blues this summer after he was informed that he would not be receiving a contract extension.

Now Chelsea have revealed that they "will keep the channels of dialogue open" with their captain over a possible new deal in the coming months.

"John requested a meeting with the club the week before last and, in that meeting, he asked about the possibility of an extension to his existing contract," said the statement. "John was advised that, while no new deal was currently on the table, that situation could change in the coming months.

"The club has the utmost respect for John and everything he has helped us achieve to date. He is a fantastic servant to Chelsea and a superb captain. As such, the club will keep the channels of dialogue open.

"While no new deal is currently on the table, that situation could change in the coming months."

The 35-year-old has spent his entire senior career at Chelsea, helping the club to 14 major honours.
